So I finally got people together to play Warhammer Quest. I started 3D printing and painting everything needed to play Quest late December of 2024. I completed everything for the main game by October of 2025. I finally got in my first game using my miniatures last week (April of 2026).
You can read my progress on printing/painting at my other blog. This one will cover our actual playing the game.
Our version of Warhammer Quest, I have dubbed "Black Hills Warhammer
Quest". My buddy Bob and I have re-written the entire game from the
ground up. The changes are so vast its hard to even list them all. But here is an attempt: Lustria large expansion, Norsca large expansion, Sewers medium expansion, Lost Caverns medium expansion, Chaos Dwarf Ziggeraut small expansion, Twisted Tunnels small expansion, Traps! small expansion, and Dark Elf Blood Temple small expansion . Adding new dungeon decks,
dungeon tiles, monsters, new adventures, Epic Quests, Dangerous
Quests, Starting Quests, and Side-Quests. New classes. Room Features. 11 Themed Monster Encounter tables (these allow for Dark Elf only dungeons for example). Monster Cards. Monster Item Decks.
Spell book decks for casting class. 100s if not more than 10000 new treasures. New Printed Rule book with our
rules. Adventure book with our adventures. Character Sheet Folders with
pockets for item cards and item cards for those pocket sheets. Full
color Class booklets. Life Counter wheels. Settlement playmat. We "borrowed" resources from wherever we could
find them. Many found so long ago, no clue where they came from ( I do know lots of the visual component came from Little Monk, shout out to that guy lots of cool stuff).
First up lets introduce the party.
Left to right. Dwarf Slayer played by Cody, Warrior Priest played by Sam,
Pit Fighter played by me, and Halfling Thief played by Tony.
One major change we made to Warhammer Quest was adding Starting Adventures. These are smaller simpler quest that should be survivable but have rather minor rewards compared to normal Adventures. We added 6 Starting Adventures to Old World.
The Starting Quest we got was "A Simple Errand". In this mission we must deliver goods from one town to a city. This is done by taking 6 weeks of travel with the 2nd week automatically being a combat encounter. The first week was a snow storm adding 4 weeks of travel. The 2nd week we got attack by Skaven Clanrats.
 |
I think my Pit Fighter did more damage to himself during this fight than the Clanrats did to the whole party. |
On week 3 or 4, we caught a Clanrat that warned us of an upcoming danger if we let him go. This let us ignore a danger later. We at some point were set upon by a party of 4 NPC warriors.
 |
| We were attacked by Level 1 NPC Wizard, Barbarian, Dwarf, and Elf. |
 |
| We sat back and waited for the Dwarf and Barb to come to us. |
 |
| My Pit Fighter is apparently better at rolling 1's than 4 or higher and put himself to zero wounds. Luckily the Warrior Priest was able to heal me back. |
 |
| The next turn we took down the dwarf, but not before I hit myself again with my Pit Flail. Again saved by healing from Priest. |
 |
The Slayer and Halflling were able to finish the Barbarian, while the Priest and I finished the Wizard and Elf. |
After a few more weeks of travel we were able to make it to the City and deliver the goods for a few dungeon treasures and some gold.
 |
| Between these two fights we gained the above treasure. The Slayer got "Beast" Slayer's Axe & Protection Ring, Halfing Thief got 2 Vials of Blade Venom and Asuryan Stone, Warrior Priest got Collar of Zorga, and my Pit Fighter go Bohemond's Shield & Master Rune of Resistance. |
The Collar of Zorga is kinda insane on a healer. I think I'm going to wait to use the Rune until I get Spiked Pit Body Armour as thats the best body armour I can ever get as a pit fighter.
In town the Slayer lost a bunch of money to a debt collector, the Thief ended up in Jail needing bailed out by the party, but we did acquire 6 healing potions and got a side quest "Old and Moldy".
 |
I made a custom settlement Map for tracking days in town and filled it with useful info on stuff you can do in town. |
 |
| Close up of our 4 warriors on day 1 in the settlement. |
Side Quest like Starting Adventures are easier missions with lower pay out if successful. We have 18 Side Quests for Old World.
So first night of Warhammer Quest with my materials was a success. Tony and I were teaching the other two for their first time playing Quest. They enjoyed it so much they asked to come back the next night and play more.
Before I call this post over, I figured I should show off our custom "Character Folders" which have replaced character sheets.
 |
| Sort of like a Diablo 2 charactor, there are 15 equipment spots. Helm, Amulet, two rings, left hand, right hand, body armour, cape, belt, gloves, boots, and a max of 4 trinkets. Consumables like Potions, Provision, Bandages, and scrolls don't have to be equipped to use (there are 2 extra sheets in folder for holding access equipment and consumables). |
That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.
DeMagic Tutor out.
